In February 1975 the largest, most prestigious civic building project ever undertaken by Ashford Borough Council was completed, providing a comprehensive range of recreational and leisure services to meet the aspirations of a growing community. In 2004 Ashford Borough Council, after having carried out extensive consultation with the residents of Ashford, began a major remodelling of the Stour Centre. The remodelled facility offers the community a complete package of up-to-date services with particular emphasis on an entirely new leisure water area and Contours Health Club. Ashford Leisure Trust was created in 2007 and is a not for profit organisation with charitable status which manages the Stour Centre and the Julie Rose Stadium on behalf of Ashford Borough Council and also Kingsnorth Recreation Centre on behalf of the Kingsnorth Recreation Centre trustees. The Trust is governed by a board of Trustees consisting of local people who have an interest in leisure or a professional skill that can help the management and development of the Trust.
